Clarity Brings Action.
Clarity Brings Action.

When Two Realities Meet

There is something about this movement that has been difficult for me to put into words.

I have spent a lot of time trying to understand the relationship between what I experience as two realities.

There is the reality we can see.

The physical world.Our circumstances.Our relationships.Our work.Our responsibilities.The things happening around us.

And then there is the reality we experience within ourselves.

What we carry.

What we feel.

What we know.

What we believe.

What is happening beneath what other people can see.

For a long time, I struggled to explain how deeply connected these two realities are for me.

Because they are not separate.

What happens within us affects what happens around us.

And what happens around us affects what happens within us.

It is a constant movement between the two.

This is where AU → Manawaroa → Te Ao Mārama has given me a way to understand what I have been experiencing.

AU — What Is In Front of Me

AU brings me into the physical world.

It brings me to what is here.

What I can see.

What is actually happening.

Sometimes we don't want to look at what is in front of us because seeing it clearly might mean we have to acknowledge that something needs to change.

I know that feeling.

We can become very good at adapting to circumstances.

We tell ourselves things are okay.

We keep going.

We carry what needs to be carried.

But underneath that, something within us can be saying something completely different.

And eventually, the two realities become impossible to ignore.

Manawaroa — What I Have Been Carrying

Manawaroa is the Heart of Endurance.

Within my understanding, it sits in the middle of the head, behind the eyes.

This is where I begin to see the relationship between what is happening around me and what is happening within me.

What am I seeing?

What have I been carrying?

What have I endured?

And how has that endurance shaped the way I see my life?

For me, this isn't simply about looking at difficult experiences.

It is about recognising how those experiences can become part of the way we operate.

We can carry an old story for so long that we stop recognising it as an old story.

We can make decisions from fear because fear has become familiar.

We can remain in situations because they are known to us, even when they no longer belong to who we are becoming.

And this is where the two realities meet.

What I carry internally influences how I experience the world externally.

And what I experience externally can reinforce what I carry internally.

It becomes a cycle.

Until something becomes clear.

Te Ao Mārama — Seeing What Needs to Change

Te Ao Mārama is the movement into light and clarity.

For me, this is where something begins to shift.

Clarity isn't just seeing what is happening.

It is seeing the relationship between what is happening within me and around me.

That has been a big part of my own journey.

Understanding that if I want something in my external reality to change, I also have to be willing to look at what is happening within me.

And sometimes the opposite is true.

When I change something within myself, the way I see the world around me changes too.

Suddenly, what I couldn't see before becomes visible.

A pattern.

A choice.

A boundary.

A possibility.

A direction.

And with that clarity comes something I think is very important: action.

Because clarity without action can leave us standing in the same place.

Moving From Old Into New

This is what the movement of AU → Manawaroa → Te Ao Mārama has given me.

A way of recognising where I am.

A way of seeing what I have carried.

And a way of becoming clear about what needs to change.

It has helped me understand that moving from old into new isn't always about making a huge, dramatic decision.

Sometimes it is one small action that comes from finally seeing something differently.

A conversation.

A boundary.

A decision.

Letting something go.

Choosing something new.

Saying yes.

Saying no.

Taking the step I have been avoiding.

For me, the movement is not about leaving one reality behind and entering another.

It is about understanding that both realities are always in relationship.

What happens within affects what happens without.

What happens without affects what happens within.

And when we become conscious of that relationship, we have more choice about how we move.

That is where Te Ao Mārama becomes important to me.

Not simply as a place of light, but as a place where I can finally see clearly enough to act.

To recognise what belongs to the old.

To acknowledge what I have endured.

And then to make a conscious choice about what I am willing to carry forward.

Because sometimes the new isn't something we have to go searching for.

Sometimes it begins the moment we see the old clearly enough to choose differently.

AU → MANAWAROA → TE AO MĀRAMA

Be present to what is here.

See what you have carried.

Allow clarity to show you what comes next.

Then take the step.

That, for me, is the movement from old into new.

AU E IO

RETURN TO MAURI • RETURN TO SELF

This is part of my evolving understanding of AU E IO, shaped through my lived experience, reflection and the people and teachings that have guided my journey. I share it with respect and humility, as my understanding rather than a definitive representation of Māori knowledge.
